Suffrage Centennial Writing Contest

The Center for Women, Politics & Policy, in collaboration with the Century of Action: Oregon Women Vote (the project celebrating the centennial of Oregon women's suffrage), announces a statewide writing contest:

Awards:
The winning entry will receive $250, be published on the official Suffrage Centennial celebration website, and the author will receive a meeting with the Editor of the Oregon Historical Quarterly on advisement of publication of a longer, full-length article.


To enter, please answer the following question:

How have Oregon women used enfranchisement to shape the state in the past 100 years?

Qualifications:
You must be an undergraduate or graduate student at an Oregon institution of higher education at the time of submission.

Submission Instructions:

  • Submissions must be sent in MS-Word format by e-mail to nlormail@pdx.edu along with the entrant's contact information, with “Writing Contest” in the subject line.
  • Papers should be between 3-5 pages, double-spaced, Times font 12.
  • Students may enter only one paper for this competition.

 

Evaluation of entries:

    Entries will be evaluated by a panel of CWPP, Oregon Historical Quarterly, and Suffrage Centennial Celebration representatives.
  • The winning entry will be based on: organization and presentation, clarity of the writer's position, and support of the writer's position with scholarship, research, and/or analysis.

 

Submission Deadline: Friday, October 10, 2010, before midnight
